Purpose: The Senior Sales & Property Tax Accountant I is responsible for preparing sales and property tax compliance for various corporate entities; also gathers facts and researches tax issues related to various company entities to quantify exposure, ensuring proper compliance, and facilitating sales and property tax savings.

 

Essential Functions:

· Prepares tax compliance for all corporate entities, including preparing necessary calculations to achieve tax compliance, organizing, and developing efficiencies in the tax return preparation process, and identifying possible opportunities and exposure areas

· Conducts tax research

· Coordinates maintenance of sales and property tax preparation software

· Prepares responses to Information Document Requests (Audits), notices, and other requests for information from various tax authorities as directed by management

· Prepares and provides Sales and Use Tax Resale Certificates

· Processes business taxes (gross receipts tax for CA, TN) and specialty taxes (meals tax, litter tax, and use returns)

· Prepares Canadian GST/HST and PST tax returns

· Performs General Ledger account reconciliations and location activities

· Assists with special projects and other tax matters as they arise

 

Reporting Relationship: The Senior Sales & Property Tax Accountant I reports to the Tax Director.

 

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:

· Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 5 years:

o In a technical role: Requires 5 years of accounting experience engaged in delivering tax programs

§ A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the 5-year requirement

o In the industry: 3-5 years of hospitality, F&B and/or retail experience

· Specialized Training:

o Training that leads to understanding of corporate tax principles and GAAP

o Knowledge of state and federal tax regulations and statutes

· Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits

o Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of tax and accounting planning and to advance the organization’s goals

o Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances

o Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments

· Location: This position is located at the North America Support Center in Bethesda, MD
