Purpose:
Our Food & Beverage Operations Manager is responsible for the operation of one or more food and beverage programs within Hudson Group operations, ensuring maximum restaurant profitability through excellent guest service, high quality food and beverage, crew development, food safety and restaurant cleanliness, conveying a positive impression of the F&B brand store(s) by showcasing the brand through exciting presentation and executing operational strategies, building a strong team through hiring, training, and developing Restaurant Managers, and providing clear, consistent coaching while recognizing individual and team contributions.
Essential Functions:
Customers
- Create “seamless customer service” by making every effort to find merchandise for customers even if an item is not in stock
- Promote quality of customer service among staff through training and by acting as a positive role model
- Monitoring Service Quality: regularly monitor service quality by observing staff interactions with customers, reviewing customer feedback, and conducting periodic service audits to identify areas for improvement.
- Implementing Service Enhancements: Based on customer feedback and observations, implementing service enhancements and process improvements to continually elevate the customer experience and exceed customer expectations.
- Maintaining Cleanliness and Ambiance: ensure that the restaurant is clean and well-maintained at all times, including tables and common areas
- Handling Customer Complaints: proactively address customer complaints and concerns promptly and effectively.
People
- Determine and monitor compliance standards with General Manager
- Recruitment and Hiring: Actively involved in the recruitment and hiring process to ensure that they select candidates who are a good fit for the team and possess the necessary skills and qualities for the job.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance evaluations to assess staff performance, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas for improvement. Set performance goals and provide support and resources to help staff achieve them.
- Training and Development: Provide comprehensive training to new hires to ensure they understand their roles, responsibilities, and the company's customer service standards as well as service standards expected by the brand. Additionally, offer ongoing training and development opportunities to help staff improve their skills and advance their careers.
- Setting Expectations: Clearly communicate performance expectations, goals, and standards to all staff members. Ensure that they understand what is expected of them and provide regular feedback on their performance.
- Develop a positive working relationship with all employees and associates of the company.
- Lead by example and promote an environment in which the urgency to satisfy each and every guest is standard.
- Coach and develop teams to exceed guest expectations, as measured on guest satisfaction surveys.
- Review guest feedback and engage the team in developing action plans to improve the guest experience.
- Monitor each restaurant team to ensure appropriate training tools are used to foster consistent knowledge with new and existing Food & Beverage Sales Associates.
Sales & Operation
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws within district, including Federal and Provincial labour laws.
- Act as a point of contact for airport and security agencies concerning food and beverage issues.
- Ensure all food safety guidelines are adhered to.
- Develop a productive relationship with the general manager and their staff.
- Develop and maintain a relationship with vendors and contractors serving Hudson Group.
- Work in conjunction with the retail division to help manage the clerks, cashiers, and managers.
- Constantly work to find new sources of revenue and profits.
- Utilize SAP to ensure all orders are entered into the system for receiving
- Oversees Food storage facilities including Food & Beverage Warehouse space
- Menu Development and Management – working with brands to ensure items, pricing meets customer preferences and dietary trends. Ensure the menu is updated regularly
- Inventory Management - oversee inventory tracking, ordering, receiving, storage, and waste management to minimize losses and optimize profitability.
- Staff Scheduling and Management: to ensure adequate coverage during peak hours while controlling labor costs.
Finance
- Ensure that goals will be met through appropriate planning and organization of staff, inventory, and expenses and making staff aware of sales goals
- Review store progress on a monthly basis with the District Manager
- Cost Control and Management should have a strong understanding of cost control principles to minimize expenses and maximize profitability. This includes monitoring food and beverage costs, labor costs, and other operating expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing strategies to control costs without compromising quality.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: should be able to analyze financial data and generate reports to assess the financial performance of the business. This includes tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing sales trends, monitoring expenses, and identifying areas for improvement. They should also be able to communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders, such as owners, investors, and senior management.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
- The combination of education and professional experience must equal at least 10 years: A minimum of 6 years of retail/Food & Beverage experience with at least 3 years of experience in a management/supervisory role. Multi-unit Management experience preferred.
- College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years or equivalent experience
- Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of functional planning to advance the organizations goals
- Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances
- Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading F&B teams to achieve common goals
- Knowledge of effective merchandise presentation standards, preferably specific to the Joe & The Juice brand.
- Knowledge of food safety, labour laws and discrimination prevention guidelines in British Columbia.
- Serve It Right Certification,
- Flexibility in schedule availability is required to support a near 24/7 F&B operation.
- SAP experience is preferred.
- Understanding of basic retail concepts and local marketing expertise
- Good problem solving and analytical skills,
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite is required.
- Fluent English is required and additional languages, with a priority on French is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security pass is required.
