Purpose: The SVP Commercial is responsible for setting the North American region’s Commercial vision, establishing and executing the Annual Commercial Plan, and driving the overall performance of commercial activities across the North America organization. This role owns the Annual Commercial Plan end-to-end, ensuring it delivers against revenue, profitability, and customer experience goals.
Essential Functions:
- Sets the Regional Commercial vision and strategy in alignment with company business plans, working in collaboration with the other key functions to drive growth, business performance, and customer needs
- Establishes, monitors, and executes the Commercial Strategy and Annual Commercial Plan, owning outcomes against financial and performance targets
- In partnership with Operations, Operations Services, Business Development, Digital, and Marketing, leads the development and implementation of customer engagement strategies to enhance brand reputation, loyalty, and customer satisfaction
- Owns all Retail product categories and programs - including space allocation, assortment, promotions, pricing and inventory strategies – to maximize commercial performance
- Manages Commercial budgets and financial performance, ensuring category and portfolio decisions align with revenue, margin, and profitability targets
- Maintains competitiveness in the market by identifying and evaluating emerging trends, opportunities, product lines, brands, and revenue streams
- Builds, leads, and develops a high-performing Commercial organization, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Owns delivery of all Commercial elements for existing and new proposals, RFPs, and refurbishments across the region; supports the Business Development team on business continuity situations with the best commercial inputs
- Builds and maintains strategic relationships with brands, vendors, distributors, airport authorities, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to advance the company’s commercial position; equips Commercial team leaders to employ successful negotiation strategies and build long-term industry and internal partnerships
- Participates in the development of the fresh Grab and Go food category and the Retail and Food & Beverage concept portfolio to expand revenue streams and category relevance
Reporting Relationship: The SVP Commercial reports to the Chief Operating Officer
Interdependencies: Category Management, Concept Development & Brand Partnerships, Marketing & Communications, Supply Chain & Logistics, Design & Construction, Operations Services, F&B and Retail Operations, Business Development
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
- Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 15 years:
- In a leadership role: Requires 10 years of experience leading a senior level team of professionals engaged in developing and executing Commercial management and strategy programs
- In a technical role: Requires 10 years of experience engaged in developing and delivering Commercial management and strategy programs
- A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the ten-year requirement
An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional 2 years of the ten-year requirement

- In the industry: 10+ years of retail experience
- Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of multiple locations, concepts, and large scale, ideally over $500 million in revenue
- Must have experience with retail operations and planning & development, with exposure to multiple concepts, brands and customer profiles

- Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits:
- Strong analytical skills with knowledge of financial tools and understanding of concept profitability and return on investment
- Proven track record of driving sales and marketing success and achieving business growth
- Ability to utilize market research and market trend information
- Strong negotiation skills; has the ability to navigate through conflict to find an acceptable win for all parties
- Highly advanced business acumen and also has the strategic mindset required to understand the long-term implications of Commercial strategy decisions and to advance the organization’s goals
- Demonstrated history of anticipating and balancing the needs of the business with the needs of complex stakeholders, the employee population, and individual circumstances
- Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams to achieve common goals
- Demonstrated experience exhibiting a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to optimize work processes and achieve positive results
