HR Specialist - People & Culture
The HR Specialist provides essential administrative and operational support to the People & Culture department at Charleston International Airport, comprised of Retail, Dunkin’, and Chick-fil-A locations. This role is responsible for executing core HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, compensation, benefits administration, and employee relations, while ensuring full compliance with applicable labor laws and company policies.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as an onsite HR representative, supporting operations management and hourly team members
- Assist in the implementation of corporate and local People & Culture initiatives
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and internal policies
- Coordinate and support confidential investigations and employee relations matters
- Identify and address HR-related issues, maintaining confidentiality and escalating when appropriate
- Partner with operations to ensure compliance with airport and landlord policies and expectations
- Manage end-to-end recruitment processes, including job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and onboarding logistics
- Respond to team member inquiries regarding compensation, scheduling, policies, and general concerns
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems; perform administrative tasks including data entry, reporting, and document retention
- Facilitate new hire orientation to ensure a positive and compliant onboarding experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2–4 years of administrative experience, ideally in HR
- 1+ year of hospitality, food & beverage, or retail experience preferred
- Combined education and experience must exceed 2 years
- Coursework toward HR certification or demonstrated knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices required.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
- Able to interpret and simplify policies and legal documents for team understanding
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; skilled in creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
- Comfortable using HRIS and business systems; quick to learn new technologies
Location/Travel:
- Requires on-site attendance to assigned location(s) five days per week: this is NOT a remote position
- May require up to 10% travel
